Fire Never Consuming: Music From Alice Isn't Dead

    released August 9, 2016

This expansive 80-track album collects the original score from part one of the acclaimed audio drama Alice Isn’t Dead. Haunting, cinematic, and unsettlingly intimate, FIRE NEVER CONSUMING weaves together ambient textures, minimalist melodies, and slow-burning tension to mirror the show’s themes of loss, paranoia, and resistance on the open road. It’s a sonic map of a dark and mythic America—written in static, silence, and fire.

Composed, performed, and produced by Jon Bernstein.

Alice Isn't Dead is a serial fiction podcast from Night Vale Presents, written by Joseph Fink and narrated by Jasika Nicole.

  • Blue-toned image of ornate architectural relief behind wrought iron scrollwork; cover art for Granicha by Disparition.

    Granicha

    released May 23, 2014

Double-album GRANICHA paints a picture of a world in which borders are erased, between nations and cultures, between myths and reality, between this world and others. A unique album spanning techno, industrial, experimental, ambient, jazz, and pop styles, GRANICHA addresses the elements of nature and supernatural and asks them to return to life.

    Reviews:

“Granicha is a production tour de force: this album is a massive, complexly structured, genre-hopping, multi-layered monster featuring everything from rappers to operatic sopranos, yet somehow it all holds together and sounds consistently assured, crisp, and vibrant.”

    MADOC

    released July 2, 2013

A longform techno meditation on time, transformation, and the metaphysical unknown, MADOC spans just three tracks, each a sprawling, immersive landscape of rhythm, distortion, and spatial tension. Inspired by Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time trilogy, MADOC channels the emotional logic of L’Engle’s universe: collapsing boundaries between science and mysticism, movement and stillness, light and shadow

  • Blurred grayscale image of an Eastern European city skyline; cover art for 1989, an ambient album by Disparition reflecting on the fall of communism.

    1989

    released February 2, 2008

A portrait of the last days of the Communist era in Eastern Europe, 1989 takes its form and mood from the dramatic decline of the Ceausescu regime that dominated Romania for over two decades. The album combines compositions written and performed on an 80’s era synthesizer, samples of archival footage from the Romanian Revolution, and modern found sounds to create an aural investigation of history.

    Reviews:

“1989 is a brilliant piece of ambient work that deserves attention by the hardcore ambient fan. Don’t miss it.”

    - Matt Row, MusicTAP

“1989, the new CD from Disparition (aka Jon Bernstein) offers a soundtrack of sorts for the collapse of the Ceaucescu regime in Romania. Like any good physical production should be, the sonic play of 1989 is richly layered, diverse and gripping.”
